Our Story

Old Church & Schoolhouse

Old Church & Schoolhouse

Old Church & Schoolhouse

Our story begins way back in 1868 when the local community built this adorable brick building to serve as a Baptist Church.

After years of operating, it was then sold to Blendon Township and transformed into a one room schoolhouse.

In the late 1940's, Harry and Dorothy Schwind purchased the building with plans to turn it into a welding shop. They had both attended school here as kids.

With the onset of the Hoover Reservoir project, the welding shop became Harry & Dot's Bait Store and ran for 36 years as a beloved fixture in the community. The store closed in December, 1993 when Harry passed away. It has been vacant since.

In February 2025, we bought the place with plans to turn it into a coffeehouse.

We hope to offer a peaceful, welcoming pitstop for outdoor adventurers, cyclists, frisbee golfers and anyone else exploring the area. There is a love of both coffee and community in every step of this journey.

Mom & Me

My name is Drew Klopfer. My mom, Aunda, and I are starting this business together.

I grew up on Hoover, fishing in coves, canoeing to islands, iceskating along frozen winter shores, and biking the path to the dam. This building has sat vacant my entire life (I was born in '93 when Harry & Dot's closed). We cannot wait to breathe some life back into this historic place!
